A $700M settlement will resolve claims that Equifax failed to encrypt Social Security numbers and other sensitive personal information of customers. The class-action alleged that Equifax needs to be responsible for the data breach security incident that occurred during a cyberattack disclosed in 2017, which led to about 147 million customers’ personal information being exposed.
